Social issues resonate powerfully with Idahoans of many stripes. There are strong feelings of all varieties, and in many directions. Many of you have asked questions about where I stand. The sad truth of our time is that both major parties use social issues to create an artificial wedge between voters who fundamentally want the same thing: freedom to live their lives without unnecessary government interference. My position is very simple, and I’m here to address all issues at once.
I am a constitutionalist. I am an American. I am a passionate believer in the sacred rights and freedoms of every Idahoan and every American. And it is on these principles that I stand when I say that any rights denied to any minority can be denied to anyone, and will eventually be denied to everyone. I support free speech, free press, and freedom of religion - all religions, period. I support Second Amendment rights. I will never support national gun registries or taking guns away from law-abiding citizens. I support marriage equality and the rights of every Idahoan to live their life in the way they deem best, provided of course that they do no harm to the rights of others. And I do not support Big Government inserting itself into private medical decisions - one place I think we should all be able to agree it does not belong.
In other words: live, and let live.
